Frequently Asked Questions About Timber Harvesting in Indiana
Welcome to Crowder Hardwoods’ Frequently Asked Questions page, where we aim to provide clarity on your questions about timber harvesting in Indiana. If you have any specific concerns not addressed here, please feel free to reach out to our knowledgeable team.
- Why should I have timber harvested?
A: For the Crowder family, money has always grown on trees, and if you have a good stand of mature timber, it could be for you as well. Even selective harvests can change the lives of property owners by helping ease estate planning concerns. Money doesn’t solve everything, but it can help, and we always pay 100% of your money upon contract signing.
Timber is a resource like corn, beans, livestock, or wild game; like those resources, nature will take its course when trees mature, and harsh winds will render the resource useless. - Do you service my area?
A: In short, yes. Our local logging company has licensed timber buyers in Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. With that being said, we are based out of Central Indiana, and certain factors can play a part in us being able to harvest your timber or not. The best thing to do if you have timber is to contact a Crowder at any of the options on this site.
3. How much is my timber worth?
A: There have been 20-acre tracts of timber we have paid $100,000 for a harvest, and there have been 300-acre tracts of timber we have paid $20,000 for a harvest. Some things to consider are as follows:
- Our loggers typically consider any tree with a diameter over 18″ at breast height to be mature. Some species can be smaller because of how long they take to grow and their overall max growth point before we consider it “overmature.”
- Also, the markets between tree species play a major part, so it will help if you can identify walnut and white oak trees. Not that these are the only trees “worth” harvesting, but they help make the harvest worth it to all parties involved. If you contact us, we can help determine whether there is enough to schedule a timber survey.
4. What services do you offer?
A: We provide comprehensive foresting services in Indiana. Our company purchases standing timber, harvests them, and then sells them to our customers. We also sell Timberland and Forestland properties.
